HANJO ICHIJO with Michiko Yao
Road Concert on Sunset Boulevard and Lived Experience, 2011
Participants are invited to interact within a tatami*-size fabric on the ground as instructed. Multiple spaces are installed with different instructions. Hanjo Ichijo is inspired by Japanese proverb, "Okite hanjo nete ichijo", which translates to: "Awake half a tatami, asleep one tatami.” It means one does not need much to live a full life. *a traditional Japanese flooring mat.

ONE VOICE ONE METER with Erich Wise
18th Street Arts Center, 2011
In an evolving installation over a three-month period, we offer a template (space) in a non-profit gallery where a temporary community collectively investigates possibilities within limitations. The community consists of multiple adjacent one cubic meter spaces. Cubes are assigned to participants through raffle to be used for expressive projects. Since spaces are not physically divided, residents are encouraged to collaborate or negotiate with neighbors in order to fulfill their visions.
